What does increased Delta variant cases mean in the UK and Israel, where vaccination rates are high? – Health News

According to Our World in Data, when the first cases of the Delta variant were detected in Israel, about 56 percent of the population had already been fully vaccinated. But when the Delta variant was first detected in the UK, only 2 percent of the population was fully vaccinated. Vaccination rates in the country reached 50 percent in the last week.

“There is reason to be moderately hopeful. The people most at risk have a fairly high immunity to vaccination and natural infection. This may be the main reason why hospitalizations are not so high,” said Justin Lessler, professor of epidemiology at the University of North Carolina.
