Wearing a burqa is banned in Sri Lanka

According to national media reports, Minister Weerasekaera said at a meeting held in the city of Kalutara that wearing veils in the community directly affects the country’s national security.

Weerasekaera stated that in the past, Muslim women did not wear burqas and signed the directive prohibiting the wearing of burqas in public places.

Minister Weerasekaera also noted that if the madrasahs that are not registered in the country do not make the necessary regulations, steps will be taken to close them.
