United Nations (UN) Special Representative in Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener, stated that more than 520 people died after the coup in Myanmar and said, “The intervention of the army is very brutal and this situation increases the possibility of civil war”.
Burgener briefed the UN Security Council on the developments in the country after the coup in a closed session.
According to Burgener’s speech, which was reached by AA correspondent, more than 520 people have died in Myanmar after the coup.
Burgener said, “Widespread and systematic attacks are taking place on the civilian population in Myanmar before our eyes. The military’s intervention is very brutal and this increases the possibility of civil war.
Stating that the situation in the country is rapidly getting out of control and that a possible civil war will endanger the situation of ethnic minorities and Arakan Muslims, Burgener called on the UN Security Council to use all the tools at its disposal and to prevent a multi-dimensional disaster in Myanmar.
