Russian Federal Information Technologies and Mass Communication Supervisory Authority (Roskomnadzor) announced that the speed of the social media application Twitter will be slowed as of March 10.

In the statement made by Roskomnadzor, it was stated that 28 thousand requests have been sent to Twitter for the removal of suicide, obscene and drug-promoting content since 2017.

In the statement, which stated that more than 3 thousand of the content in question had not been removed, “It was decided to slow the speed of Twitter as of March 10 in order to protect Russian citizens and force them to comply with the law.” It was said.

Opposition leader Alexei Navalni, who was found to be poisoned in Russia, returned to his country from Germany, where he was treated last month.

Navalni was later detained and arrested for violating the parole rules.

Following the arrest warrant, protests began across the country. It was one of the areas where protesters expressed their reactions on the social media platform Twitter.
