On the other hand, Wilkins stated that, in the light of these findings, the ideas linking the emergence of early humans and coastal environments should be “rethinked”, stating that the story of human origins is more complex, involving different places and environments in Africa and different groups of early humans interacting with each other he said:

“Prior to this, the Kalahari was not seen as an important region for understanding the origin of complex human behavior, but our study shows that it is. Ultimately, this means that models that focus on a single origin center, such as the South African coast, are not applicable,” he said.
