The cost of access to water for 140 countries is 114 billion dollars


UNESCO announced the United Nations (UN) Water Development Report on the occasion of March 22, World Water Day.

In the report, which stated that water resources should be managed better in the world, it was pointed out that in many regions of the world, there was not enough investment in water resources and the issue did not attract the attention of politicians.

The report pointed out that this situation causes inequalities in access to water and causes inefficient use of water.

In the report, which stated that water scarcity increased due to the inefficient use of water, it was emphasized that the annual cost to be allocated for the period of 2016-2030 reached 114 billion dollars in order for 140 low and middle income countries to access water.

In the report, which stated that hand hygiene is important in combating the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic, but more than 3 billion people in the world do not have access to water, it was noted that more than 85 percent of the population in the Arab region lives under water scarcity conditions.

In the report, which explains the need to invest heavily in infrastructure, appropriate technologies and the use of water resources in order for water to be seen as a fundamental human right by everyone, the importance of knowledge and research on water resources was emphasized.
