State of Emergency declared in Japan until the end of summer: It also includes the Olympics

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a state of emergency until August 22 due to the increasing Covid-19 cases.

Thus, since the beginning of 2020, it will be the fourth time that a state of emergency has been implemented in and around Tokyo.

Omi Shigeru, Head of the Covid-19 Advisory Board of the government, said that if the cases continue to rise, the health infrastructure may be strained during the Tokyo Games.

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko also described the course of the case in the capital as “quite serious” and stated that they would accelerate efforts to organize the tournament safely.

The Olympic Games, which were previously planned to be held on July 24 – August 9, 2020 and postponed due to the epidemic, were decided to be held on July 23 – August 8, 2021.
