Sri Lankan beaches covered with plastic snow cover: Environmental disaster warning from experts


According to environmental news outlet Mongabay, the small granules likely came from the 78 tons of plastic pellets the X-Press Pearl was carrying. “Some of the 25-kilogram bags from the containers fell into the sea and the beads are now blanketing beaches all the way to the southern coast of Sri Lanka,” Darshani Lahandapura, head of the Sri Lanka Marine Environment Protection Authority, told Mongabay.
