Research: Pompeii disappeared within 15 minutes after volcano eruption

The study, which is featured in the journal Scientific Reports, was conducted by the University of Bari in Italy and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the British Geological Survey (BGS).

In the study, it was determined that after the volcano eruption that took place in 79 AD, gas and dust clouds, ash and lava fragments covered the city in a short time, while it was stated that most of the approximately 2 thousand people who lost their lives after the explosion were breathless due to the “pyroclastic flow”.
