President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who went to the TRNC for the 47th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, addressed the deputies at the Special Session of the Assembly of the Republic in Nicosia.
Announcing the much-anticipated good news in his speech, President Erdoğan said that in the Metehan region of Nicosia, a National Garden will be built on 500 decares of land in addition to the social complexes including the parliament building.
“TODAY IS A VERY, VERY MEANINGFUL DAY FOR US”
Headlines from Erdogan’s statements are as follows:
“Today is a very, very meaningful day for us. I am happy to be in the TRNC on the 47th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation and to meet with you under the roof of the Assembly of the Republic. Today, we are once again proclaiming to the whole world our eternal and eternal brotherhood, which draws its strength from the blood of our martyrs, between Turkey and the TRNC, whether they want it or not.
“CYPRUS CASE IS A GREAT CASE”
The Cyprus case is a big one. This case is the case of a great nation with its history, great conscience, great struggle, and a great nation with its heroic epic written in 1974. The owner of the Cyprus cause is the whole of the great Turkish nation, with its offspring and homeland. The owner of this case is our martyrs and veterans.
‘THEY WERE DESTROYED’
If we can breathe freely here today, the biggest share in this is the heroes who made this land a home of martyrs. Those who saw our Cypriot brothers as an easy bite were defeated by the epic struggle of the Mehmetçik. Those who believe that they will destroy the Turkish Cypriots by relying on the forces they rely on, found the steel will of the Turkish Cypriot people in front of them.
”EVEN HOWEVER THE BROTHERHOOD CLIMATE MADE SOMEONE DISTURBING IN AMERICA…”
The existence and unity of the TRNC is above all political considerations. We will not allow some heedless people to stab the poisonous arrows of separation into the hearts of the Turkish Cypriot people. Although the climate of unity, solidarity and brotherhood that we exhibit here has disturbed some in America, we will walk with determination on this path. We know very well who represents the invader and who represents the occupying mentality on the island. Greek Cypriots have never seen the Turkish Cypriots as equal partners. The Greeks, who do not hesitate to attack the honor, life and property of their neighbor Turks with the help of the EOKA terrorist organization, have never seen the Turkish Cypriots as their equal partners. We will not allow certain circles targeting our unity and solidarity to steal the leaven of sedition into our lake of brotherhood.
“EMPTY DREAMS OF THE GREEK SIDE BROUGHT DEFINITION”
There was nothing left that was not discussed in the negotiations. The empty dreams of the Greek Cypriot side, which continued to see the Turkish Cypriots as a minority, brought a deadlock. History and the painful experiences we have gained in this process have taught everyone clearly that the Greek Cypriot side has no intention of establishing a partnership state.
“WE CAN’T BELIEVE IN THIS NOW”
The Turk keeps his word, but the Greek does not keep his word. It is not possible for us to believe in these anymore and lose another 50 years. There are two separate states and two separate peoples on the island. We fully support the proposal presented in Geneva by the President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, to firstly register the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriot people and then to carry out the settlement negotiations between the two states on the island. We do not compromise, we cannot give. A fair, permanent and sustainable solution can only be an approach based on the realities of the island. We have no eyes for anyone’s land. Our intention is not to cause tension, but to solve problems with rights, law and fair sharing.
GOODWILL OF THE PRESIDENTIAL COMPLEX TO TRNC
The TRNC Presidency does not have a proper building complex or parliament building. We do not liken this to the TRNC. The building in the Presidential Complex is a British slum. Now, the project work of the step related to the TRNC Presidential Complex is finished and I hope we will start the construction soon. We want to build a National Garden as well. This is the expression of being a state. By putting this project into practice, someone needs to see what kind of a Northern Cyprus state there is. I think it would be appropriate to turn this historical building, where the TRNC was declared, into a museum and leave it to new generations.”
