Palestinian reaction from Turkey to UNSC: silence is unacceptable

Feridun Sinirlioğlu, the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations (UN), stated that it is “unacceptable” for the UN Security Council to remain silent in the face of Israel’s attacks on Palestine, ” What can he justify? ” he asked.

Turkey submitted a written statement to the session where the UN Security Council discussed the rising tensions between Israel and Palestine and Israel’s air strikes against Gaza.

Sinirlioğlu, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, condemned Israel’s aggression and air strikes against Palestine and conveyed his condolences to the Palestinian people for their innocent disappearances, including children and babies.

Sinirlioğlu, who held the Israeli government under the leadership of Binyamin Netanyahu responsible for the latest developments, reminded that Israel tried to force the Palestinians out of their homes in East Jerusalem and the West Bank during the holy month of Ramadan and again attacked the Palestinians worshiping in the Masjid al-Aqsa.

Sinirlioğlu, who also condemned the targeting of schools in Gaza by the UN Palestinian Refugee Aid Organization (UNRWA), said that the attack on the schools was a “war crime”.

Stressing that it is “unacceptable” for the UN Security Council to remain silent in the face of Israel’s deadly military attacks on Palestinian civilians, Sinirlioğlu said, “More than 40 children have died in Gaza since the Israeli attacks began. How many days would it take for the Council to meet in a public session if it was blown up? he asked.

Stressing that the council continued to remain silent when it should have condemned Israel’s random attacks on Palestinians and its “ethnic cleansing” campaign two weeks ago, only to encourage the Netanyahu administration to carry out the biggest military operation since 2014, Sinirlioğlu told the UNSC immediately to Israel’s attacks. Called for an end.

Calling on Israel to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to thousands of Palestinians displaced in Gaza, Sinirlioğlu said, “This Council can no longer escape its responsibilities to the Palestinian people.”

Stating that Turkey is actively continuing its multilateral efforts to mobilize the international community so that the situation on the ground does not worsen, Sinirlioğlu noted that Turkey is ready to fully support the initiatives in the UN General Assembly in the coming days.

Stating that an international protection mechanism should be established in order to deter Israeli aggression and to protect the Palestinian civilian population, Sinirlioğlu stated that the UN General Assembly should lead the efforts to establish this international mechanism.
