Nigeria suspends Twitter | NTV

The development was announced by the Nigerian Ministry of Information and Culture. In a statement, it was stated that the decision was taken because the platform was persistently used in a way that could undermine Nigeria’s institutional presence. It was also reported that the government has instructed the National Broadcasting Commission to immediately begin the process of licensing all social media operations in the country.

Nigerian President Mohammed Buhari, on June 1, reminded of the civil war that caused the death of 1 million people in the country between 1967-1970 and made a threatening post on his Twitter account for the rebels attacking public buildings.

Twitter suspended the account by deleting Buhari’s post.
