Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador İbrahim Kalın met with US Deputy Foreign Minister Wendy Sherman.
During the meeting between Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın and US Deputy Secretary of State Sherman at the Presidential Dolmabahçe Office, bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed comprehensively.
The agenda of the NATO Summit and the topics of the meeting that will take place between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Joe Biden were discussed.
During the meeting, it was agreed that joint work should be continued to ensure peace and stability in regional issues such as Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Nagorno-Karabakh and Ukraine. While expressing satisfaction with the ceasefire in Palestine, it was underlined that the need to pressure Israel to abandon its aggressive stance and to take concrete steps for permanent peace within the framework of the two-state solution.
At the meeting where Turkey’s national security concerns were reminded, the expectations regarding the PYD and FETO were conveyed to the US side. Despite differences of opinion, the importance of advancing our relations with a strategic understanding and positive agenda was mentioned.
It was stated that Turkey-USA relations should be handled with an approach based on mutual trust and active cooperation. It was emphasized that Turkey-US cooperation, as two important NATO allies, strengthens the alliance and contributes to global peace and stability in the face of new challenges.
