Experts say there could be several reasons for this situation. One of them is that many people die at home or not being tested for Covid because hospitals do not have a bed. Therefore, they cannot find a place as Covid patients in the database managed by different states. Bhan said test centers are still in short supply in small towns and even in some cities, and ‘it is possible to miss many Covid-related deaths in these areas’.

Bhan also said that there is a problem with recording Covid deaths in some states:

“There are also reports on administrative detention, but the authorities reject the claim. We need more transparency in numbers as it clearly shows how serious the situation is ”
