A nighttime fire broke out in the forest in the resort town of Loutraki in the Corinth city of the Peloponnese, about 90 kilometers from Athens, the capital of Greece.
It was stated that the rapidly spreading flames were moving towards Attica.
It was reported that 182 firefighters, 62 fire trucks, 17 aircraft and 2 helicopters intervened in the fire, while 6 villages and 2 monasteries around Mount Gerania were evacuated.
Firefighting Spokesperson Vassilis Vathrakogiannis said, “We’re talking about settlements, 90 percent of which are summer houses,” said the fire that turned the forest area into ashes.
It was stated that smoke can be seen from many points in Athens.
