An incident occurred in the north of the Suez Canal that would disrupt world trade.

The cargo ship named “Ever Given” with Panama Flag, 400 meters long and 59 meters wide, turned sideways and landed. The ship is thought to be stranded due to a technical malfunction.

He said that the communication with the ship was suddenly cut off when the company to which the ship was connected was about to pass through the channel. It is also possible that the strong winds blowing in the region diverted the ship from its course and landed it.

Rescue efforts have been taking for hours. It is stated that it may take at least a few days to recover the ship.

Opened in 1869, the Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. It is shown as one of the most important waterways in the world, connecting the east and the west in oil, natural gas and cargo transportation.

It is stated that 10% of the world maritime trade takes place through the 193 km Suez Canal.
