Organized crime organizations in Mexico reportedly killed 66 politicians in the last 6 months.
According to the news published in the country press, in a report announced by the authorities before the federal elections planned to be held in Mexico in June, it was stated that 66 politicians were killed by organized crime organizations in the last 6 months.
In the report, which drew attention to the increase of threats and blackmail against mayors, deputies and candidates before the federal elections planned to be held 3 months later, the report noted that the risk of life safety for politicians is high.
The report stated that Chihuahua, Veracruz and Cancun, the main cities of the country, are the most dangerous places for politicians.
The mayor candidate of the town of Puerto Morelos was assassinated by unidentified people on 24 February in the country.
According to the Mexican Association of Local Authorities, 192 mayors were killed between 2006 and 2020 by organized crime organizations.
