BioNTech started Covid-19 vaccine trials in children under 12 years old


In the statement made by Pfizer, it was stated that the first tests were started yesterday through the volunteers and it was noted that the vaccination of children in the said age range was planned to be expanded in early 2022.

It was stated that the vaccine will be applied on 144 participants in 10, 20 and 30 micrograms for safety in the 1st and 2nd phase trials, while the tolerability of the vaccine and its response to the immune system will be tested on 4 thousand 500 people in the third phase trials.

In the statement, it was stated that the results of the 6 months-11 age range test study are expected to be received in the second half of 2021, and it was noted that the results of Pfizer’s ongoing vaccination studies for the 12-15 age range are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

US-based pharmaceutical company Moderna reported on March 16 that it started a new type of Corona virus (Covid-19) vaccine study in children aged 6 months to 11 years for mass immunity in the epidemic.

In a joint study conducted with the US Department of Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, it was noted that the first phase clinical trials started, phase 2 and 3 phases would be combined and trials would be conducted on 6,750 children in two parts.

One of the Covid-19 vaccines in the country approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson can be applied at the age of 18 and over, and the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine can be applied to the age of 16 and over.
