US President Joe Biden visited the Surfside region, where the disaster took place, days later.
The American President, who went to the city with his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, first met with the search and rescue teams.
Here, the couple received information about the work from the authorities.
Then he visited the memorial wall prepared for those who lost their lives. Jill Biden laid flowers at the monument.
The American President did not go to the debris field. However, he spoke to the families of the deceased.
Biden went in front of the cameras after his contacts.
He referred to the meeting he had with the families. He stressed that hope dwindled as the hours progressed.
He referred to the traffic accident in 1971 in which his daughter and his first wife died. He said he understands the pain of families.
He also answered the question of why the building collapsed.
“I don’t know, the FEMA director is here with me. We don’t have definitive proof of what happened. There’s all kinds of reasonable speculation,” Biden said.
The balance sheet is getting heavier day by day in the wreckage of a 12-storey building that partially collapsed in Florida.
So far, the lifeless bodies of 18 people, including children aged 4 and 10, have been recovered from the rubble. Still no news from 145 people.
