Biden made a written statement regarding the refugee admission quota, which was lowered to the lowest level in the history of the Trump era.
Stating that they increased the refugee admission quota to 62,500 for the fiscal year 2021, Biden said, “The historically lowest quota of 15 thousand did not reflect the fact that America accepted and supported refugees as a nation.”
Joe Biden also noted that they aim to increase the quota to 125,000 for the fiscal year 2022.
In its statement on April 16, the White House announced that the 15,000 refugee admissions limit set by Donald Trump for the fiscal year 2021, which is recorded as the “lowest number in history”, will be preserved, and this decision caused reactions in the public and some Congress members.
White House Spokesperson Jen Psaki stated in her assessment on the issue that the final figure will be determined by Biden by May 15.
