According to the news in the Cuban news agency (ACN), one of the demonstrators who participated in the anti-government protests at various points in the capital Havana died yesterday. It was learned that the citizen who lost his life was 36 years old.
Social media platforms shared that the protesters continued to be detained, and the non-profit human rights organization Cubalex shared the claim that nearly 100 people had been detained since Sunday.
Thousands of people protested the deteriorating economic conditions in the country and demanded freedom from the government in the demonstrations they organized at the weekend.
The demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Down with the dictatorship” and “We want freedom”, and images of looting events were shared on social media.
The demonstrators, who blamed the government for the rising prices with the deteriorating economy, food and medicine shortages, accused the authorities of failing to manage the new type of corona virus (Covid-19) crisis.
Cuban President Diaz-Canel, on the other hand, addressed the people on Cuban television and national radio and said, “We will not surrender the sovereignty of our homeland, we call on all revolutionaries to take to the streets to defend the revolution everywhere.”
