A fire broke out at around 05:30 in the upper floors of an apartment in the Flemish site in the 14th district to the north of Marseille.
While 3 people who jumped from the 8th floor in panic lost their lives, 10 people were injured, one of them seriously, with a baby in the arms of a jumper.
French Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives in the fire, in a statement on Twitter.
It is stated that the fire, which is still not under control, started by accident.
On the other hand, most of the residents of the site, which will be demolished soon to be rebuilt, have already left their homes. But the refusal of some residents to leave their apartments is hampering the progress of the demolition process.
