16-Year-Old Student Accused of Murder
A 16-year-old student caught in connection with the death at the school was charged with murder in court today, which he attended via video.
The student in question, who was stated to have remained emotionless at the hearing, was sent to a health center for psychiatric evaluation after the court.
The student, who was decided to be kept in this center for a while, is expected to appear before the judge again on 10 August.
It was learned that the 16-year-old student attempted suicide in 2019 and stayed in the mental health center.
According to the initial investigation by the police into the incident, it turned out that the two students did not know each other.
THE AX IS FROM THE INTERNET
Interior and Justice Minister K Shanmugam said in a statement on his social media account that according to the preliminary investigation, the ax was taken from the internet.
Shanmugam said the incident was a shocking tragedy.
This incident aroused public outrage, as violence rarely occurs in schools in Singapore.
On social media, topics such as the safety of schools and the mental health of students were discussed.
In the country, although the penalty for murder is death, minors under the age of 18 are sentenced to life imprisonment.
