12-year prison sentence for anyone trying to buy “chemical weapons” with Bitcoin

According to the Independent newspaper, 46-year-old Jason William Siesser, who lives in the US state of Missouri, admitted to the authorities that he had twice attempted to buy “dimethyl mercury” through a platform where illegal products could be purchased and connected to a private browser.

For the first time in 2018, Siesser wanted to pay the price of dimethyl mercury, which is described as a “chemical weapon” when not used for scientific research purposes.

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that Siesser, whose first 10-milliliter attempts to purchase two chemicals failed, again a month later tried to pay for three 10-milliliter orders of chemicals with $ 150 worth of Bitcoin.

The ministry noted that it was possible to kill 300 people with the chemicals Siesser wanted to order.

In the remotely held hearing in the US District Court, it was decided that Siesser would be sentenced to 12 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Just a few drops of dimethyl mercury, which is highly toxic, can be fatal.
